What Happened
A motorcyclist in their 40s was killed Saturday evening on Detroit’s east side when a driver ran a red light at E. 8 Mile Road and Hamburg Street and struck the rider, according to the Detroit Police Department.
The crash happened just before 8 p.m. on August 22 at the intersection of E. 8 Mile Road and Hamburg Street, a spokesperson for the Detroit Police Department told WXYZ. Police said the driver of a vehicle went through a red light and crashed into the motorcyclist, who was traveling on 8 Mile at the time. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle and a teenage passenger were taken to a hospital, and police said both are expected to make a full recovery, WXYZ reported. The name and hometown of the motorcyclist had not been released as of Sunday afternoon, pending notification of family.
