What Happened

School Street is a residential street in Calumet Township, in the historic mining community that includes the Village of Calumet and the Village of Laurium in Houghton County. The neighborhood is characterized by closely spaced older homes and detached garages set near the street, which means a vehicle that leaves the roadway has little room before reaching a structure.
Speeds on School Street are low, and it is not a through route; US-41 carries the main traffic through the Calumet area. TV6 did not describe road or weather conditions at the time of the crash.
