What Happened
A 68-year-old Stanton man has died following a three-vehicle crash on M-66 near Sheridan in Montcalm County’s Sidney Township, the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office said. The crash happened Thursday afternoon on M-66 in the area of S. Sheridan Road and Ruby Road; The Daily News, a Montcalm County newspaper, reported the crash occurred at about 4:17 p.m.
According to the sheriff’s office, a 2018 Subaru was traveling north on M-66 when it crossed the centerline into southbound traffic. Investigators said the Subaru first sideswiped a southbound 2020 Buick, driven by a 77-year-old Lyons woman, and then collided head-on with a southbound 2017 Chevrolet, driven by a 55-year-old Fenwick woman.
The Subaru’s driver, a 68-year-old Stanton man whose name has not been released, was flown by Corewell Health Aeromed to Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, where he died of his injuries, the sheriff’s office said. No injuries were reported among the occupants of the other two vehicles, according to 9&10 News. Investigators said all occupants were wearing seat belts, and that neither alcohol nor drug use is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
