The Legal Picture
Who investigates a fatal single-vehicle crash in Michigan? The law enforcement agency with jurisdiction, here the county sheriff's office, documents the scene and prepares the crash report, and may involve other agencies for reconstruction or toxicology.
How long does an investigation take? Serious-injury and fatal crash investigations can take weeks or months, because agencies often wait on medical and mechanical findings before drawing conclusions.
What does Michigan no-fault insurance cover after a serious crash? Michigan's no-fault system can provide personal injury protection benefits for medical care and related losses, and survivor benefits in fatal cases, depending on the policies and people involved.
